The Department of Plastic Surgery is a specific field within surgery that aims to treat various types of abnormal body shapes of different parts of the body, and is not restricted to treating any specific organ.
Abnormal appearances can result from various factors including scars from injuries, abnormalities from birth, sores (tumors), or deformations from ageing after removal or sores.
Various technologies aimed at repairing body disfigurements have been developed, including suturing, skin grafting, skin flap plastic surgery, tissue transplant, laser treatment and micro vascular surgery. Currently, we not only provide treatment for disfigurements but a wide range of body issues using these technologies, including removing scars that take long to heal, symptoms relating to ageing, or cosmetic treatments.
The Department of Plastic Surgery at Nakagami Hospital was established as one of the medical departments in the hospital in 2004. Since it was established, we have always continued to provide the latest procedures in breast reconstruction after breast cancer removal, in close partnership with the Breast Surgery Center. We operate as the central hospital in the Okinawa city area, and we are able to treat difficult shape-modification procedures, through our partnerships with other related hospitals and clinics within the area. We also provide emergency care and treat critical injuries such as fractured facial bones, repairing damaged blood vessels and nerves, and burns all over the body.
There are various diseases that we treat.
Congenital abnormalities refers to inherited abnormal body shapes including cleft lips,**, distorted ears, polysyndactyly (when fingers or toes are fused together or split), and umbilical hernia. We also provide cosmetic treatment for acquired abnormal appearances, such as disfigurement from tumor removals, burns and injuries, and scars and ** that result from them, and blemishes. We also conduct two types of rehabilitation after tumor removal, breast reconstruction and head and neck reconstruction. With regard to external injuries, we mostly treat injuries on the hand, and facial injury related to fractured facial bones. We treat bedsores and refractory ulcers as well.
Often, we are asked whether plastic and reconstructive surgery will be covered by health insurance. Most procedures conducted by the Department of Plastic Surgery are covered by health insurance in Japan. Abnormal appearances can also cause physical dysfunction, and may cause misery and reduce the individual’s quality of life. For this reason, procedures applicable to health insurance are firmly established under the Japanese medical system.
On the other hand, our desire to look pretty or younger is very natural, and the demand for anti-ageing and cosmetic treatment is rapidly increasing. We also provide the latest cosmetic treatment at our hospital to meet these demands.
